Editors note: this story is part of a series on the valedictorians of Troup County’s high schools.

With Callaway High School’s graduation right around the corner, valedictorian Charlie Lin is looking back on a memorable past and looking forward to a bright future.

Lin said that it took “a lot of hard work” to become valedictorian, and that he was proud to have earned such an honor.

“High School was not easy, but I am glad that I made it through. It’s really cool that I am valedictorian this year.” Lin said.

While at CHS, Lin was involved with the chess club and the Kiwanis-Affiliated youth program known as Key Club. He was also a tennis player, which he said was “hard to balance with his schoolwork, but very fun.”

After graduating, Lin plans to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology as a part of its IGNITE program, which gives incoming freshmen the opportunity to take core classes over the summer so that they are ahead at the start of fall semester. He plans to continue his education into a bachelor’s degree of computer science.

While Lin is excited to move to Atlanta, he knows that he will miss LaGrange.

“I was born here, and I love the small town vibe that LaGrange has. I’ll miss all of my friends that I’ve made as well,” Lind said.

As for what advice he would give underclassmen, he said to stick with it, even when you are not motivated.

“You have to keep your drive. Senioritis is a real thing, but so is junioritis. You have to stay focused and keep working to do your best.” Lin said.

“If you have an ambition, try your hardest to pursue it.”
