The Hillside Montessori School of LaGrange recently gave back to the community with a donation of $500 to The Foundation For Casey’s Cure, according to a press release from the foundation.

Bethany Headrick, head of Hillside, described her choice to support Casey’s Cure Foundation as a heartfelt opportunity to support Ethan Duffield, a graduating student of Hillside.

Casey Duffield of The Foundation for Casey’s Cure (501c3), Ethan’s mom, and a nurse with the pulmonology department of WellStar Pulmonary Medicine, thanked Hillside for their donation and moral support.

“We are so grateful and honored that Hillside Montessori has chosen to donate to our pursuit of a treatment for a rare neuromuscular disease like mine, Hereditary Myopathy with Early Respiratory Failure (HMERF),” Duffield said.

“This $500 donation, which was raised through sales of student artwork during the Walk on Main community event, will be used toward funding the trip to the SciFam Conference in Nashville, Tennesee, from June 30 – July 3, where we will be hearing from and meeting with the top neuromuscular geneticists who are diligently working toward identifying gene errors and pursuing genetically engineered remedies.”

The Foundation for Casey’s Cure Foundation was founded in 2019 and is dedicated to providing research and outreach awareness to the LaGrange and Troup County rare disease community.
