On Friday night, the Rotary Club of LaGrange celebrated the past year with an end-of-year banquet at LaGrange College’s Beason Recital Hall.

The evening included a review of the club’s accomplishments during the year, award presentations and the introduction and pinning of the club’s 2022-2023 president, Ken Miles. The club’s newest members were also recognized and a new member, Kelsey Henderson, was inducted.

Wanda Walker was also recognized by the Rotary Club as the Charles D. Hudson Service Above Self, Citizen of the Year Award. The award was established in 1996, and the winner is chosen by Rotary’s board based on service to the community.

“I can not think of a more deserving recipient for this award,” Jason Weldon, current Rotary president said. “Wanda has done so much for the community, and I am honored that we are able to present her with the Service Above Self, Citizen of the Year Award.”

The club also presented Zsa Zsa Heard with the Barbara Henigin Service Above Self Award for her commitment and dedication to supporting the club. Heard was given the award due to her service as Sergeant of Arms of the club, as well as her leadership in running both in-person and virtual meetings.

“When I asked her to take this position, neither one of us knew exactly what it would entail,” Weldon said. “But Zsa Zsa has worked tirelessly, and our club couldn’t have done it without her.”

Local musician and recent graduate of LaGrange College, Lauren Hicks, provided the entertainment for the evening.
