At its meeting Thursday, The Troup County Board approved a price increase of .25 cents increase in breakfast meals for LaGrange High School and Troup High School students to go into effect in the upcoming school year.
The costs of the breakfast meals increased from $1.25 to $1.50 for secondary school student breakfast.

Only LHS and THS are the only two affected schools as all other secondary schools participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) option. This option is a non-pricing meal service option for schools and school districts in low-income areas, making meals free for the affected districts.

The minor cost increase is due to rising costs, the price increase is necessary to cover price increases in food, paper goods and labor, Superintendent Dr. Brian Shumate said.

Based on the number of paid breakfasts served during the 2019-2020 school year the increase will generate an additional $5,767.40 in revenue, according to school board documents.

In other business at the meeting:

The board approved a $44,414 change order to Sheridan Construction for asbestos abatement at Hollis Hand Elementary School. According to school board documents, the hallways in the main building had asbestos glue under the vinyl composition tile (VCT) and need to be abated.

The board adopted the FY2023 budget as tentatively approved on May 19.
