WEEKEND TICKET: Back to school drives to highlight weekend

The start of the school season is just around the corner but there’s still plenty to do to help Torup county residents get the most out of the rest of their summer vacations.

FRIDAY

  • The Hogansville Public Library will be hosting family movie at its location at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Visit https://thrl.org/program/movie-day-9/ for the movie title. This event is free and no library card registration is required. 

SATURDAY 

  • The Chipley Historical Center in Pine Mountain will host a Diggin’ Up the Past pottery workshop on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This class will share about the Creek Indians/Native Americans who lived in the Pine Mountain area while participants replicate their ways of living by crafting a coil pot. The workshop will be presented by Archaeologist Patrick Severts and is appropriate for participants ages 14 and older. The $10 fee per person includes project materials.
  • Downtown LaGrange Development Authority will host its Market on Main from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The market features vendors selling fruits and vegetables, as well as jams, jellies, pastries, eggs and more. Vendor booths can be found at Flagpole Park and along the sidewalks in the 100 block of Main Street.
  • Hogansville will host its own Farmers Market Event in downtown Hogansville from  9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
  • Bluegrass artists Larry Waldrep w/long time bandmate, Stan Foster & Special Guest Brett McDaniel Saturday, July 23, 2022.
  • Teachable Moments, an area child care learning center, and Elevations 5Cs, will host its third annual Back to School Bash Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at Hogansville Elementary School. Participants will be offer backpacks stuffed with school supplies and hygiene products, as well as free food and drinks, games and face painting.

SUNDAY 

  • The Broad Street Church of Christ will host a Back To School Bash on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will feature food, a big inflatable, and free school supplies for the first 100 kids who are present. Visit the Broad Street Church of Christ Facebook page, under events, to sign up for free school supplies.
  • The Kristy K Daniel’s Real Estate Team will be hosting a back-to-school giveaway at Lafayette Square from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. There will be free Kona Ice for children and free school supplies and backpacks, five chances to win a $200 gift card, and 10 chances to win a $25-50 gift card. Participants must be present for the drawing at 2 p.m. for a chance to win the gift cards.
