Five locals have qualified to participate in a special election to fill the LaGrange City Council seat previously held by LeGree McCamey.

McCamey died earlier this year after more than a decade serving on the council.

Ashley AC Cousin, Leon Childs Jr., Israel Barsh, Marquavious “Quay” Boddie and Maiya A. Dowell are the five candidates who qualified to fill his remaining term. It’s important to remember that there won’t be a primary for this special election, meaning whoever gets the most votes (assuming its 50%, plus one vote of the total) will be the new representative in district 2B.

The most likely outcome is a run-off between the top two vote getters. When it’s time to vote for this race in November, a lot of the attention nationwide will be focused on the midterm elections across the country.

However, the person who wins this seat will have a bigger impact than any of the senators or representatives who are elected in our state or across the country.
