William Guy Longshore, Jr. of LaGrange, Georgia went to be with the Lord on Tue. Aug. 16, 2022 at the age of 98. Born Oct 31, 1923 in Montgomery, Alabama, he lived in Atlanta for 52 years and moved to LaGrange in 1988.

As part of “The Greatest Generation,” he served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a member of the 870th Bomber Squadron in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

Guy served for three years, including one year as a command gunner on B-29s in the South Pacific.

In addition to the various missions flown, one of his greatest joys was having been part of the relief airdrops for the POW camps in Japan.

Following the war, he was in the life insurance business and later traveled to three states as a manufacturer’s representative before retiring in 1970.

Although he never married, when he moved to LaGrange, he made his new neighbors and church friends part of his family.

Guy had a quick wit about him and loved to make others laugh. If he was poking fun at you, it was because he considered you a special friend.

His greatest asset was his love for people. He never met a stranger. Guy loved to write about his various adventures and experiences. Either from his early life in Atlanta, his service during WWII, or one of his 17 different cruises to the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Mediterranean, Paris, Nice, Rome, and Switzerland. He was a member of First Baptist Church on The Square where the family will have visitation on Sat. Aug. 27th from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M.   A memorial service will begin at 2 P.M. at the church.

Private internment will be held later that day.
