Mr. Hugh Eugene Cornwell, 86, of LaGrange, passed away on Aug. 22, 2022.

Mr. Cornwell was born on March 16, 1936, in LaGrange to the late Joel B. Cornwell and Martha Dollar Cornwell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Cornwell; parents that raised him, Harvey and Bertie Smith; daughter, Sheila Bearden; son, Greg Hammett; siblings, Hazel Stewart, Leona Carpenter, Barbara Pearce and Walter Cornwell.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Steele Smith Cornwell; children, Christi Daniel, Lisa and Tony Cannon, Sandy and Lane Smith and Kevin and Monica Smith; siblings, Joanne and J.P. Malone and Virginia and Herb Thomas; 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Mr. Cornwell retired from the State of Georgia as a Fuel Inspector and was a member of Baptist Tabernacle.

Funeral services will be held on Thurs. Aug. 25, 2022 at 2 P.M. at the Baptist Tabernacle with Rev. Jimmy McMillian and Rev. Frank Sledge officiating. Entombment will follow at the Shadowlawn Mausoleum. Family will receive friends on Wed. evening from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand, 706-884-5626.
