In a battle of crosstown rivals, it was Troup volleyball that came out on top over LaGrange in two sets on Tuesday night.

“We played pretty sloppy, but we’re happy to get a win against our crosstown rival,” Troup head coach Hutch Blair said. “We did some things that we haven’t been doing, I don’t know where that came from. Something in the air didn’t feel right for our girls tonight.”

The first set saw multiple lead changes with Troup coming out on top 25-23 in an extremely contested set. The second set proved just as dramatic. The Tigers pushed out in front only to see the Grangers come back and tie it at 22-22. The Tigers showed some poise and came out on top in the second set 25-23.

“I’m glad they were able to finish them out,” Blair said. “It was back-and-forth with both teams using timeouts in crucial parts of the game, and both teams competed hard until the last point.”

Troup gets its first win under Blair and improves to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in region play. The Tigers will be back in action on their home court on Saturday. The tournament will see the Tigers take on Calvary Christian and Upson-Lee in back-to-back matches.

“We’ve got plenty to work on tomorrow as we get ready for our big tournament on the 27th,” Blair said.

LaGrange drops to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in the region. LaGrange will be back on the court at Harris County on Thursday.
