Two adults involved in a large fight at a little league football game at Hogansville Elementary School Monday were cited for their actions.

Hogansville Police Chief Jeff Sheppard said a female in the crowd ran and attacked another female. They ended up having to use a Taser on that female and the other one was arrested for obstruction. Neither has been identified by HPD.

“The female was attempting to go through us to get to that female,” Sheppard said. “She refused to comply with our orders, so she was arrested and both of them were cited on the scene and released … and those charges can be modified depending upon what the investigators find after viewing camera footage.”

The Hogansville Police Department said more charges are expected as officers continue examining security camera footage to determine who instigated the incident.

According to a press release from HPD, one security officer at the game immediately called for backup when the fight began. The fight then spilled over to several participants.

Sheppard said upon getting to the scene it appeared to be about 40 people involved, though it appears 10 or 15 were really fighting with a handful — approximately 5 being the instigators.

HPD said several other officers responded within a minute of being called, but the amount of people involved caused concern. The Troup County Sheriff’s Office and Grantville Police Department were then contacted for backup in clearing the scene.

“The Hogansville Police Department is committed to the safety of the citizens of Hogansville and will work diligently to prevent another incident occurring,” the department said in a statement. “We encourage parents whose children are participating in any group activity to act responsibly. We teach our children by our actions and such negative and violent reaction does not reflect what youth sports tries to teach; respect, comradery, teamwork, cooperation and community. The incident that occurred Monday night in front of so many children does not reflect the community values of Hogansville.”

The fight is currently still an open investigation. HPD is going through video to identify others involved and hopes to close the case Friday.
