It was an absolutely clinical display from the Troup Tigers on the road as they dismantled Riverdale 52-14 on Friday. 

“Offensively, we were very sharp,” Troup coach Tanner Glisson said. “We didn’t punt until the very end of the game when we had some young guys in there.” 

After sitting the vast majority of Troup’s last game against North Clayton, Taeo Todd was back up to his usual stuff on Friday night. 

Despite not registering a passing touchdown, he still spread the ball around to his usual trio of wide receivers in Qua Moss, Malikih Poythress and Logan Sinkfield. Todd also added his thirteenth and fourteenth rushing touchdowns on the season. 

“He was really sharp and threw the ball really well tonight,” Glisson said.

He was not the only standout as Sinkfield had a big game being deployed at running back, wide receiver and quarterback. His biggest play of the game was a 46-yard touchdown run to give the Tigers a 52-14 lead late in the game. 

“Logan Sinkfield was excellent,” Glisson said. “He’s the first player that stands out in my mind when I think of players that played well tonight.”

The Tigers got right down to business, winning the opening coin toss and choosing to receive the opening possession and put their dominant offense on the field. Right on cue, the Troup offense marched down the field and scored on a Tray Blackmon 20-yard touchdown run. Riverdale answered with a touchdown and cut the Tiger lead to 8-7, but it was all Troup after that.

The Tigers poured it on with a 1-yard rushing touchdown from Todd and a Javari Fannin rushing touchdown which gave the Tigers a quick 24-7 lead in the first quarter. The Tigers were successful on two-point conversions on their opening three touchdowns. Fannin and Todd each got their second rushing touchdown of the game before the halftime break to give the Tigers a shopping 45-7 lead at the break. 

Riverdale possessed the ball for over 11 of the 12 minutes in the third quarter and got a consolation touchdown before Sinkfield gave the Tigers their 38-point lead back. 

The defense limited Riverdale for the most part, but Glisson still saw room for improvement on that side of the ball.

“We didn’t set the edge very well early in the game so we will have to go back and look at the film and clean that up,” Glisson said. “Special teams were good, but we did miss a couple of tackles on kickoffs and missed a tackle on their touchdown that they got.”

Troup improves to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in region play. 

The Tigers are tied atop the region standings with Trinity Christain which likely sets up a showdown between them on Oct. 28 that will decide the region crown. 

Troup has not won a region championship since 1987. 

Troup will be back on the gridiron on the road to Fayette County on Oct. 21 after a bye week next Friday.

 “We have to stay healthy,” Glisson said. “We have a bye week, then Fayette County and a humongous game against Trinity Christian. We have to keep getting better each week.”
