Rounding out Sweetland Amphitheater’s 2022 concert season is Blue Collar comedian Ron White. According to Katie Van Schoor, Marketing and Communications Manager for the City of LaGrange, Sunday’s performance is one of White’s last before he retires at the end of this year.

“We’re really excited to have him here at Sweetland, and we’ve already sold a ton of tickets,” Van Schoor said. “He is our first comedian and the tickets are nearly sold out.”

White is a stand-up comedian, actor, and author, best known as a founding member of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour along with Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, and Larry the Cable Guy. Nicknamed “Tater Salad” from his Navy days, he is the author of the book “I Had the Right to Remain Silent but I Didn’t Have the Ability” — which appeared on the New York Times best-seller list in 2006.

Beginning his career in 1986 performing for comedic legends Sam Kinison and Jeff Foxworthy, White has made a name for himself as the cigar-smoking, scotch-drinking humorist, who tells stories of his real-life growing up in a small town in Texas, to sharing stories of his daily life.

For almost a decade, White has been one of the top-grossing stand-up comedians on tour in the United States. During this time, all four of his comedy albums have charted #1 on the Billboard Comedy Charts. He is a three-time Grammy-nominated comedian and has sold over 10 million albums.

“He is such a wonderful talent, and we’re just really excited to host him here at Sweetland this Sunday,” Van Schoor said. “It’s going to be a really fun night.”

Due to adult themes, this event will be for mature audiences only.

Van Schoor said Sweetland looks to have more comedians perform in the future and are open to having other types of entertainment as well.

“2023 is going to be even better. We plan on having a lot more events in 2023 and of a variety of events, not just music,” Van Schoor said.

“We’re looking at kid shows, and we’re definitely looking at comedy again. So we plan on having an action-packed 2023 at Sweetland.”

The community support for Sweetland has made the 2022 concert season successful, according to Van Schoor.

“If we didn’t have a community that comes and supports us at Sweetland, it wouldn’t be as successful as it is,” she said. “We’re just grateful to the community and couldn’t do it without them.”

The performance is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Sunday night.
