This weekend festival goers from all around will descend onto Hogansville for the 24th annual Hummingbird Festival.

Each year, Downtown Hogansville hosts a festival featuring more than 200 vendors with artisan crafts, unique goods, a kid’s area, fair food and live music.

The festival is run by an all-volunteer group to help raise money for the Hogansville Charitable Trust. Money raised for the trust is then leveraged for city improvement projects through grants.

For volunteers, putting on the festival is a labor of love. Volunteer Jason Stewart said work for the festival can take months.

“We start working start working on it in April, so it’s a long process,” Stewart said.

The festival generally has about 15,000 to 20,000 visitors to the downtown area of Hogansville over the weekend, he said.

Stewart advised that vendor space has sold out for this year’s show. There’s space for around 200 vendors.

“It’s a mixture of arts and crafts and food vendors, and there’s an area for children with vendors for them to play games and rides,” Stewart said.

The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m. The festival has extended hours on Saturday running until 8 p.m. with live music in the evening. The festival ends on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Local downtown businesses also plan on staying open late for the new later hours on Saturday.

Over the years, the festival has helped pay for downtown streetscapes projects and the Tower Trail. The trust was able to purchase property in the downtown area and donate it to the city for green space, which is now known as Askew Park.

In one of the biggest recent projects, the trust purchased the former PNC Bank building and donated it to the city to move City Hall out of the historic Royal Theatre.

Stewart said the trust will soon turn its efforts toward assisting with the renovation of the Royal Theatre.
