The March for Jesus will return to LaGrange on Saturday, Oct. 15. The event is held each year for local Christians to publicly celebrate their faith with a march from Sweetland Amphitheatre to Lafayette Square.

Several speakers and music are planned for the event once the group arrives at the square.

Event organizer, Dr. Joe Almand, said this will be the seventh march in LaGrange. The event began eight years ago, but it was canceled for one year during the pandemic. Almand said the city has been very helpful throughout the years, blocking off the roadway and allowing them to use bleachers and a stage at the square.

The march was started by Almand and his wife, Doris. The Almands attend Living Water Baptist Church, but Joe says the event is non-denominational and non-political.

“Everyone is welcome to attend the event,” he said. “We’ve got ministers from several churches around town set to speak.”

Almand said seating will be available at the square. He added that people with difficulties walking don’t have to march. They can just start at the square.

Sheriff James Woodruff is also scheduled to speak during the event.

Woodruff said he has spoken during the event since it first began and he helps escort people from Sweetland to the square each year.

“It’s a great event and an honor to be asked to speak for the Lord,” Woodruff said.

The event will begin at Sweetland Amphitheatre in LaGrange on Saturday, Oct. 15, starting at 8 a.m.
