Troup was locked in a heated battle with one of the favorites in AAAA, Wayne County, in the opening game of the super regional for the Tigers on Tuesday. The Tigers ultimately lost a heartbreaker 6-3 after competing for the opening stretch of the game. 

It was truly a pitcher’s duel for the majority of the game until the Yellow Jackets busted the game open late. Camdyn Bassett got the start on the mound and dominated the opening innings. She finished the game having pitched six innings while allowing eight hits on six strikeouts with none of the runs being earned. 

The game was deadlocked until the Yellow Jackets scored a run in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers quickly answered back with a run of their own in the top of the fifth inning. It was Bassett that came through with an RBI single to tie the game. Unfortunately, the Tigers could not capitalize further as the Tigers stranded three base runners in the inning.  

The tie did not last long with the Wolverines retaking the lead with a five run barrage in the bottom of the fifth inning. 

It was truly a game of missed chances for the Tigers offense as they stranded 12 runners in the game. None were more important than the three they left stranded in the top of the sixth as they could not chip into the 6-1 Wolverine lead. 

The Tigers were able to get some momentum in the seventh inning, however. Madeira Sirmons delivered a RBI single to drive in the second Tiger run of the afternoon. Sirmons was the most productive player offensively in the game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

A Caroline McInvale sacrifice fly cut the lead to just three, but the Tigers once again left two runners stranded and rued their missed chances.  

Ramsey Clark, Caroline McInvale, Maggie McDonald, Haley Cotton and Bassett all had a hit a piece for the Tigers in the game.

The Tigers will get a chance at redemption when they play Westover at 5 p.m. Westover lost to Perry 20-2 in the first round. The loser of the Troup-Westover game will be eliminated from the playoffs while the other will play the loser of Wayne County-Perry in the semifinals.
