As Halloween approaches, local businesses and organizations are gearing up for trick-or-treaters. There are plenty of events and options for anyone who wants to celebrate the holiday on the weekend.

Katie Van Schoor, marketing and communications manager for the city of LaGrange, said the city never dictates what day people celebrate Halloween.

“We always say Halloween is on the 31st, the city of LaGrange never changes it,” Van Schoor said. “Neighborhoods or communities may say we’re going to trick or treat on this day, or they might have a fall festival on Sunday, but the city of LaGrange never changes the day that people hold Halloween celebrations.”

Here’s a list of events that are occurring to celebrate Halloween:

  • Troup High School is hosting a Trunk or Treat organized by THS student ambassadors Oct. 20 in the THS parking from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Entry fee $1 or one canned food item per car load. All proceeds will go to the Salvation Army.
  • LaGrange First UMC is having its annual free Community Fall Festival on Sunday, Oct. 23, from 4 p.m. to 6 pm. The event will be located on Trinity Street and will include a trunk-or-treat, games, inflatables, a cakewalk, a costume contest, a bicycle giveaway, food trucks, free popcorn and more.
  • Springwood School located on 1814 Cherry Drive, Lanett, Alabama will be hosting its annual Fall Festival on Oct. 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will include a silent auction, raffles, a dunking booth and more.
  • Hogansville Public Library is hosting Boo with the Zoo on Oct. 29 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. This event will welcome special visits from the Iron P. Homestead Zoo and free Kona Ice. The library is located on 310 Johnson St, Hogansville GA 30230.
  • The Downtown LaGrange Development Authority’s Downtown Trick or Treat event will be held on Oct. 29 with local businesses giving out candy from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

  • On Halloween, Oct. 31, Hills and Dales’ annual trick or treat will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. where costumed children can receive full-sized candy bars and walk the decorated garden.
  • Historic Bellevue Mansion will host its annual Trick or Treat on Oct. 31 at the back porch of the mansion from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Halloween costumes are encouraged but not required to receive candy. “We love serving our community,” Resident manager and event hostess Stacey Hummer said. “At Historic Bellevue, the Bellevue Charitable Trust and the Woman’s Club do this collectively, as a way to serve our community and serve the children in our community.”

Among other events, the Troup County Archives & Legacy Museum hosts Strange LaGrange. Guided by Troup County Historical Society staff member Lewis Powell, Strange LaGrange is a historical walking tour of the downtown area. The event is held on Fridays with remaining dates through Nov. 25. Walks start at 7 p.m.

Powell also guides a tour through LaGrange’s oldest cemetery, Hillview. The walk will offer a view of history from a different perspective.

Tours meet at the parking lot at 311 Old Morgan Street in LaGrange at 7 p.m.

Reservations are required by 5 p.m. the day of the tour. Tours cover approximately one mile and traverse uneven, grassy terrain as there are no paved walkways. Comfortable shoes and flashlights are encouraged.
