Wednesday was not the day that LaGrange hoped its season would end, but alas, the Grangers were outlasted by Islands 8-4 in a back-and-forth game. LaGrange is bowing out of the playoffs while Islands will be playing in the super regional finals against Cairo. 

The game was in the balance late, but the Grangers could get precious little momentum going on offense in the late innings.

The Sharks jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning before adding two runs in the third inning to make it 3-0.

The Grangers chipped into the lead when Kimberly Reynolds hit a RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1. From there, everytime LaGrange got a little momentum the Sharks had a response. 

The Sharks scored a run in the top of the fourth to stretch their lead back out to three before the Grangers answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Carolyne Garcia blasted a solo shot over the left field wall. 

Unfortunately, Islands answered back with a solo home run of its own in the top of the fifth. 

The bottom of the fifth inning saw the Grangers get right back in the game. TaNiya Taylor scored on an RBI groundout by Kaylee Bryant before Reynolds scored on a passed ball to cut the Sharks lead to just a lone run. 

It was not to last as Islands scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a commanding 8-4 lead. The Grangers went three up and three down in the final two innings on offense as a late rally was just not in the cards. 

Zoe Thompson got the start once again for the Grangers. She started all three games in the super regional and pitched a whopping 20 innings over two days. 

The Granger offense stalled a bit after beating Islands 7-0 in the opening game of the super regional. After outhitting the Sharks 7-4 in game one, the roles were reversed on Wednesday as Islands outhit LaGrange 11-3.

Hudson Wood, Reynolds and Garcia each had a hit in the game. 

LaGrange were among the last 24 teams standing in coach Craig Moboley’s first season in charge of the Grangers. LaGrange is a team with a young core, and this super regional gave them experiences to build off going forward.
