A Long Cane Middle School student was found with a pellet gun in his possession Friday, according to a press release from the school.

The school said in a press release that administrators received a report that a student had an inappropriate item for school in his possession. The situation was investigated immediately and an “airsoft” gun or pellet gun was found. The press release, signed by Principal Whitney Glisson, said appropriate disciplinary action was taken and that there was never a threat to students or staff.

“We want to thank our administrators, staff and law enforcement for promptly, thoroughly and responsibly addressing this situation,” Glisson wrote.
