In a battle of Tigers, it was clear early on that the visitors from Troup County were the much better program.

Troup (8-0) kept its undefeated season alive with an impressive 49-21 victory over Fayette County Friday night.

“It clinched a playoff spot,” Troup coach Tanner Glisson said. “We’re glad to get that one behind us, get the win and come out of it healthy.”

Taeo Todd threw two touchdowns to Qua Moss and ran for three more in another dominant performance.

“They have a great connection, and they are both really good payers,” Glisson said. “They work hard in practice to make some good stuff happen. They have found their niche with each other, and that’s great to see.”

Troup scored first on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Todd to Moss. A two-point try failed, making the score 6-0.

The visiting Tigers had another opportunity to quickly add to their lead, but Fayette County stopped the Tigers on back-to-back possessions inside the red zone on turnovers on downs.

Finally, on their fourth drive of the game, Troup broke through again. Todd raced 43 yards through the defense — outrunning everyone with his blazing speed — to make it 12-0 Troup. The extra point was missed.

Troup went back to Moss on its next drive, with Todd finding him in the flat for another 35-yard touchdown to make the score 19-0.

The Tigers kicked a field goal on their next possession — settling for three after getting inside the 5-yard line.

Troup ended the half with another touchdown, this time from 13 yards out, to go up 30-0.

The teams traded touchdowns to begin the half, but Todd scored again on a 5-yard power to make it 43-7 in the third quarter.

“It was a long game for some reason,” Glisson said. “We got out to a 30-0 lead at halftime and pulled some guys so that we could be as healthy as possible.”

Following two touchdowns from Fayette County, the game’s final score came on a 2-yard run by Javari Fannin to make the score 49-21.

Troup plays at home the next two weeks, taking on Trinity Christian and then crosstown rival LaGrange.

“I hope we have good momentum going forward,” Glisson said. “There are oms things that we have to clean up going into next week so we can go out and try to win a region title.”

A win next week for Troup would see the Tigers lift their first region championship trophy since 1987.
