Both the State of Georgia and Troup County are seeing record-breaking numbers with early voting, with around one in five voters having already cast their ballots.

Just over 18 percent of Troup County registered voters have already cast their ballots in the upcoming election on Nov. 8.

Through Monday’s early voting, 7,884 residents have already cast ballots in person at the Troup County Government Center, according to Elections Supervisor Andy Harper. He said 1,085 of the 1,486 absentee ballots that were sent out have also been returned.

Troup County has already exceeded the last midterm election vote total with 125.1 percent of early votes cast in comparison to 2018, according to gavotes.com.

Statewide early voting records are also being broken.  As of Monday morning, 1,505,447 in-person ballots have been cast and 155,104 absentee, which marks a 42.9 percent increase in early voting over the last midterm election.

On the same day in 2018, 1,053,531 early in-person votes had been cast in Georgia. Early voting turnout is still short of the presidential turnout numbers from 2020, where 1,808,706 early votes had been cast by this time.

As of weekend voting, one in five active voters has already cast their ballots, according to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

Raffensperger expects to hit the 2 million mark this week as early voting ramps up near the end, as it traditionally does.

Troup County has 48,152 registered voters. Less than half of that number, 23,977, cast a ballot in the previous midterm election.

Early voting in Troup County will continue through Nov. 4 at the Troup County Government Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As for absentee voting, it’s too late to request an absentee ballot, but it can still be sent in. Ballots must be received by the close of polls on Election Day.
