On a chill fall Saturday morning, the LaGrange High boys cross country team took a major step forward. Under first year coach Blase Leverett, the team took part in the AAAA state meet in Carrollton.

“Today’s goal was to run faster than the bottom eight teams on a course that is one of the most challenging to race,” Blase Leverett said.

The Grangers placed 27th overall, but were able to record individual times faster than runners from  Baldwin, Islands, Northwest Whitfield, Bainbridge, Spalding, Westover, Cairo and Hardaway in terms of total time and team averages. The official individual results for the Grangers:

92nd – Walker Vinson (19:36)

145th – Bo Beall (20:49)

161st – Akeem Bailey (21:14)

176th – Gabe Shaw (22:02)

180th – Calder Thurman (22:14)

186th – Ben Lee (22:52)

189th – Bo Morman (23:13)

It was a big step forward while also serving as the conclusion to the 2022 cross country season. Leverett is coach of the boys and girls programs and hopes to have both at the state meet in 2023.
