The LaGrange Academy girls basketball team is off to a blistering start this season after a 55-5 demolition of Ballard Christian on Thursday night. 

“Ballard Christian could not handle our pressure, which created a lot of turnovers for easy baskets,” Coach Ken Klinger said. “I was proud of how our girls played as a team. We had great ball movement and shared the ball offensively.”

Once again the Warriors were led by a dominant Jazmin Thornton, who after dropping 41 points earlier this week in the season opener, scored a game high 28 points on Thursday. Half of her points came in the first quarter with Ballard Christian having no answers for her on defense. While she hit multiple three pointers and free throws in the first game, all 28 of her points on Thursday came from two-point baskets as she continues to display her versatility to start the season.

She is not the only Warrior who carved up the Ballard Christian defense. The Warriors second leading scorer through two games — Anna Beth Kinnersley — scored 10 points on the night. Tesia Garrett-Hammett had nine points while senior Kayla McBride scored eight. Laura Knight had two points to round out the scoring for the Warriors.

With the game out of reach well before the final whistle, the Warriors were able to deploy their reserves and get them some valuable minutes early in the season. 

LaGrange Academy moved to 2-0 on the young season. The Warriors varsity girls team will have a little bit of a wait before they take the court again Dec. 2 at Lafayette Christian.
