The Troup girls basketball team is off to a great start to their season as they beat Greenville for the second time this season to improve to 3-0. The Tigers prevailed 52-30 on Tuesday night.

It was a slow start for the Tigers on the night as they trailed by three points after the first quarter and only scored nine points to start the game. The offense led by Alexcia Murphy and Sheniyah Philpot came to life in the second quarter 18-3 and took a 27-15 lead at halftime.

Murphy was her usual dominant self, scoring 14 points, but it was Philpot who led the Tigers in scoring with 15. Raygen Godfey and Autumn Bulloch each chipped in with seven points. Jamie Wortham had four, Nasha Daniels had seven and Jaz Williams had two to round out the scoring for the Tigers on the night.

Despite a young and relatively inexperienced squad, coach Carla Thorton has Troup gaining some momentum early in the season.

Troup’s next game will be at home against Lanett on Monday.
