OUR VIEW: Make time to vote on Tuesday

Tuesday is the day.  Statewide, Georgia will get a lot of attention as Republican Herschel Walker challenges incumbent Democrat Raphael Warnock in a run-off for the U.S. Senate. Given how close it was on election night, we’re not sure we’ll know who wins that race Tuesday night.

The District 2 city council run-off will also be Tuesday, with Quay Boddie or Leon Childs getting elected to the LaGrange City Council.

We’ll admit that we were concerned about voter turnout for this run-off election but the early voting numbers are promising. Nearly 10,000 Troup County registered voters have already cast a ballot, so as long as those numbers continue through Election Day, we should have a fairly decent turnout.

If you haven’t voted yet, please make plans to do so on Tuesday.

Only District 2 voters can vote in the Boddie-Childs race, but the winner of that race will be the voice for voters as the city makes important decisions in the future. For anyone not in District 2, the Warnock-Walker race has sparked plenty of conversations for the last six months. (If there’s anyone left without an opinion one way or the other, we’d love to hear from you.)

It’s been a polarizing race, and with Georgia having the spotlight all to itself Tuesday, the Senate race figures to get a lot of national attention as well.

Given how many people have already voted (over a quarter of registered voters), we anticipate short lines on Election Day.

Do your part and get to the polls to vote. Do not sit this one out.
