The LaGrange Police Department has corrected an arrest warrant issued for a theft by shoplifting at Home Depot after determining the offender is the sister of the person originally charged with the crime.

On Nov. 8, the LPD responded to a theft at Home Depot, according to a press release from the police department. Toni Maddox was originally identified as the offender and warrants were issued for her arrest. However, LPD has determined the offender was actually Maddox’s sister, Deborah Simpson, who apparently looks very similar to Maddox.

Maddox was released from custody and all charges were dismissed. Warrants were issued for Deborah Simpson for the offense of theft by shoplifting.

“The LaGrange Police Department would like to correct any belief that Maddox did anything wrong during this incident,” the press release said.
