On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the LaGrange City Council hosted the graduation of the 2022 LaGrange 101 class.

LaGrange 101 is a free six-week class hosted by the City of LaGrange to teach local citizens about their local city government.

“The citizen’s education class offers community members an opportunity to experience an inside look at the City of Lagrange government and help to develop, inform and involve citizens,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Willie Edmondson.

This class began on Oct. 3 and finished on Nov. 14. Over six weeks the participants met once a week on Monday evenings to learn about different departments within the city government. Two departments were covered each week, but city leaders also discussed concerns presented by participants.

The participants are traditionally nominated by city leaders for their involvement with the community, although the public is invited to apply to participate. That class has space for about 15 participants each year who are willing to commit to a six-week class that lasts about two and a half hours each.

The graduates of the 2022 LaGrange 101 class include Lillie Fuller, Steve Jefferies, Becky Spencer, Pam Bacon, Zsa Zsa Heard, Tabitha Coverson, Quay Boddie, Ashley Cousin, Israel Barsh, Maiya Dowell, Linda Schumacher, Connie Hensler, Mary Beth Pelt, Maryanne Lovejoy and Al Brannon.

Edmondson thanked the participants for being engaged citizens and for taking an interest in their local government.

The city will begin accepting applications for 2023 LaGrange 101 in August 2023.
