Police have made an arrest in the case involving the murder of 16-year-old Laquan Dewberry.

Atlanta Police arrested Ah’Traveon Van’Quavious Stephens, 18, on Friday at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on single counts of Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault.

Stephens was charged for his alleged involvement in an incident in LaGrange where three people were shot, one fatally.

The investigation began into the incident on the night of June 24, around 8:22 p.m. LaGrange Police responded to Mason’s World on Hogansville Rd. and LaGrange Car Wash on Vernon Street upon receiving reports of multiple people shot.

At the car wash, police found a male victim had been shot in the leg and his passenger, Dewberry, had a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

Both victims were transported to the WellStar West Georgia Medical Center (WGMC), but Dewberry was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. The second victim was treated and released.

During the ensuing investigation, police received information indicating that the incident occurred at Mason’s World, where officers located a female victim who had sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The third victim was transported to WGMC where she was treated and released.

The LaGrange Criminal Investigations Section uncovered evidence indicating that the incident occurred at the end of a “teen” gathering at the location.

According to police, as the event was ending at least two groups of teens became engaged in an altercation that led to the start of indiscriminate gunfire, which resulted in persons being shot and one of the teenage individuals losing their life.

Stephens was transported back to LaGrange and is currently being held at the Troup County Jail on these charges.

This incident is still under investigation by the LaGrange Police Department.

Anyone with information about the death of Laquan Dewberry is asked to contact the LaGrange Police Department at (706) 883-260 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at (706) 812-1000.
