The LaGrange Police Department has determined that a man made up an armed robbery because his rent was late.

The LPD said in a press release that an arrest warrant has been obtained for Victor Mullens for making a false statement after determining he lied about being robbed at point Thursday morning.

The investigation began Thursday, at approximately 6:30 a.m. when officers responded to Stay Lodge Extended Stay, located at 1610 Whitesville Street.

Mullens, the alleged victim, said he had been robbed at gunpoint by an unknown Black male while he taking trash to the dumpster. The LPD used a K-9 officer was used to try to locate the suspect as was a drone with infrared capability.

As numerous officers maintained a perimeter, searched the wooded area around the Stay Lodge and manned the drone, other officers and detectives viewed the surveillance video from this location to try to determine the identity of the suspect. During the viewing of the surveillance, video evidence showed that the robbery never took place, according to LPD.

Once officers learned this information, Mullens was taken to the LaGrange Police Department and interviewed about this new information. During this interview, Mullens told officers he was not robbed and had made the story up as his rent was late, according to the press release.
