LaGrange Academy earned a 54-31 win over Heritage on the road on Monday. The Warriors were in cruise control early as they controlled the game from the opening tip.

The Warriors were able to take a six point lead into the second quarter largely due to Anna Beth Kinnersley and Jazmin Thornton who scored eight and six points in the first quarter respectively. It got better from there for the Warriors, who took a double-digit lead into the halftime break. LaGrange Academy continued to extend its lead over the following two quarters and never allowed Heritage back in the game.

It was a well-earned win for the Warriors, but the game also held more significance than a regular season, non-region game. Star Jazmin Thornton scored her 1,000th career point on the night as she carved up the Heritage defense to lead all scorers with 23 points. Thornton will be honored at the Warriors next home game on Tuesday.

Thornton was not the only Warrior who was locked in offensively. Kinnersley scored 10 points — all in the first half — while Laura Knight provided some spacing by hitting the only Warriors 3-pointer in the game and finished with nine points. Fresh off being crowned homecoming queen last Friday, Kayla McBride got back to work with four points while her fellow homecoming court member and teammate Tesia Garrett-Hammett scored six points.

LaGrange Academy is building momentum heading into the home stretch of the regular season and have now rattled off five wins in a row to improve to 12-1 overall and 2-0 in region play. The Warriors have four regular season games remaining and will be back in action on Tuesday against Ballard Christian in a non-region game.
