Lafayette Christian got a bounce back win on Monday with a 72-55 victory over Community Christian. The Cougars dropped two games in a row coming into Monday for the first time this season and needed the kind of performance they got on the road.

The Cougars got off to a hot start and took a seven point lead after the first quarter. Bruno Tellez, Adam Saylor and Keaton Murphy all scored six points in the first quarter to lead the offensive surge for the Cougars.

Saylor continued to bull the Community Christian defense down low and scored 10 points in the second quarter to help the Cougars take a 37-17 lead into halftime. Community Christian got its offense going in the second half but were not able to slow down the Cougar attack and get back in the game.

Saylor led all scorers with 21 points while adding 11 rebounds to garner a double-double in the game. He also added four assists and three steals to his ledger, dominating in all facets of the game.

Tellez finished with 18 in the game and also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists. Muroy kept up his recent offensive uptick and scored 12 points in the game while finishing just shy of a double-double with eight rebounds.

Joshua Zapata was kept quiet on the offensive side by his standards, finishing with just seven points in the game — all in the second half — but was able to contribute with 10 rebounds as well.

Lafayette Christian improved to 12-3 overall and 5-2 in region play. The Cougars final three games of the regular season are scheduled for this week with a non-region game against Heirway next on the docket on Tuesday at home.
