Callaway’s offense stalled out in a 40-32 region loss to Columbia on Friday. 

The Cavaliers could get precious little going all night, and it started early in the game with the Cavaliers trailing 8-2 after the opening quarter of play. Rainya Mahone got the Cavaliers only basket in the first period with the team combining to miss four free throws in the quarter. 

Both offenses got a bit of traction in the second quarter, but the Cavaliers were not able to cut into the lead with Columbia extending it out to seven at the halftime break.

By the end of the third quarter, the Cavaliers had cut the lead down to just five points. There were various points in the fourth quarter where Callaway cut the deficit down to just four points, but the team was never able to put together a run to get back into the game.

Lacey Thomas continues to be a major offensive threat for the Cavaliers and finished with 13 points in the game to lead Callaway in scoring. Jailyn Baker and Mahone scored nine points each to help lead the way for Callaway’s offense. 

The only other scorer in the game for Callaway was Aniyah McFarland, who finished with just one point in the game as by and large the offense struggled to get anything going all night. 

Callaway fell to 13-6 overall and 10-4 in region play as the loss snapped a three-game win streak. The Cavaliers currently sit third in region 5-2A and will be back in action on Saturday against Valley (AL) in a non-region game.
