It was far from the easiest game no. 1 LaGrange Academy has had this season, but the Warriors were able to get a 45-35 region win over rivals St. George’s on the road Friday.

The Warriors got off to a hot start in the first quarter, outscoring St. George’s 16-5. Jazmin Thornton led the way early with eight points and two made 3-pointers to spark the offense to life. Her combined with Tesia Garrett-Hammett’s five points in the first quarter got the Warriors off on the right foot.

By halftime, the Warriors had extended their lead out to 29-14. St George’s cut the lead down to 12 by the end of the third quarter and made the score a bit more flattering in the fourth, but it was the Warriors game from the opening tip.

Thornton had one of her more quiet offensive games of the season but still led the Warriors in scoring with 13 points. Garrett-Hammett scored 10 points and connected on two 3-pointers in the game. Laura Knight and Anna Beth Kinnersley scored eight points each while Kayla McBride scored three to round on the scoring for the Warriors.

LaGrange Academy is rolling and is now 15-1 overall and 3-0 in region play. The Warriors have rattled over seven wins in a row heading into next Tuesday’s penultimate game of the regular season against region foe Flint River.
