LaGrange fell just short against Riverdale on Tuesday, taking a 73-68 loss at home.
The Grangers offense was chugging early and the team was able to take a 28-18 lead after the opening quarter. This was in large part due to senior Garrett Jacobsen coming out on fire and scoring 12 of his 16 points in the first quarter. He was not alone as fellow senior Devin Dowell scored 10 of his 21 points in the first quarter to lead the charge early.
The offense struggled to get going in the second quarter and could only score 10 points in the quarter, which saw the Grangers lead evaporate as Riverdale took a three-point lead into halftime. The deficit was stretched out to five after three quarters, but the Grangers remained firmly in the game. A fourth quarter rally could not be completed as Riverdale was able to hit some crucial free throws down the stretch.
J’Arthur Dunn finished with six points while BJ Wortham scored five. Jaq Hurston was uncharacteristically quiet with just four points while Kaleb Salter, Jaron Stafford and Torrian Reeves all scored three apiece to round out the scoring for the Grangers.
LaGrange fell to 18-6 overall and 9-4 in region play. The Grangers currently sit second in the region standings and will close out the regular season against rivals Troup on Friday.
