LaGrange could not find any momentum in its season opener versus Northside and suffered a 7-0 loss.

The second and third innings proved to be the Grangers’ undoing as they allowed four runs and three runs in those innings.

The Grangers could only muster two hits in the game, both by senior stalwart Seth Stargell, who recently announced his commitment to Albany State University. Stargell was able to show off his speed and base running craft by swiping two bases as well. LaGrange’s offense could not figure out the Northside pitchers and struck out a combined 15 times.

Senior Trey Cook got the start in the game but did not have his usual stuff and was replaced after only an inning and a third. Grady Westmoreland got the majority of the work, going three and a third inning while only allowing three hits on four strikeouts. Kayden Sutton impressed in his two innings on the mound, allowing just one hit on four strikeouts.

It was not the start to the season the Grangers were looking for, but they can take solace knowing they got off to a slow start a season ago before making it all the way to the AAAA state championship series.

LaGrange starts the season  0-1 but will get the chance to bounce back quickly with a road game to Columbus on Wednesday.
