Callaway baseball just keeps on winning to start the 2023 season. The Cavaliers continued their hot offensive start by edging out Shaw 6-3 on Tuesday.  

The game was back-and-forth with each team taking the opponents best shot and throwing one back.

The Cavaliers threw the first punch when Bryce Hubbard delivered a two-out RBI double to give Callaway a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Raiders struck back in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Callaway was able to retake the lead in the top of the third inning largely due to Brantin Swanson, who delivered an RBI single before scoring later in the inning on a passed ball to make it 3-1 Cavaliers. It was the only hit of the game for Swanson, who went 1-for-1 with three walks, showing great patience at the plate.

The Raiders cut the deficit to just one run in the bottom of the third inning. Hubbard was able to limit the damage despite Shaw having runners on second and third base with no outs. He was able to get three strikeouts in the next four batters to keep the Cavaliers out front.

CJ Stephens looked to give Callaway some breathing room with an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning, but Shaw answered right back in the bottom of the fight to cut the Cavalier lead to just one run again.

The Cavaliers put the cherry on the top of the win on the top of the seventh with Stephens and Landon Alsobrook hitting RBI singles to put the game out of reach for the Raiders. 

Stephens was sensational on the night, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Alsobrook put together a quality game from the plate too by going 2-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored. 

Hubbard got the start on the mound and went three innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run on five strikeouts. He also helped his cause from the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with a RBI and a walk.

Stephens and Swanson got the relief work and both pitched two innings each. 

Callaway improved to 3-0 on the season, The Cavaliers will be back on the diamond on Thursday when they host Trinity Christian.
