An inmate died Sunday at the Troup County Jail, according to a press release from the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.

On Sunday at 10:07 a.m., a detention officer with the TCSO discovered an inmate who appeared to be unresponsive in his cell. At that time, additional officers and medical staff were notified along with the Troup County Fire Department and AMR. Lifesaving measures began on the inmate and continued during transport to Wellstar West Georgia Emergency Department. The inmate was pronounced deceased at approximately 10:51 a.m.

The inmate is identified as Richard P. Lindamood, 60 years of age, of LaGrange. Lindamood was in jail on charges of two counts of aggravated assault (FVA), one count of battery and two counts of exploitation and intimidation of an elderly adult. These charges are a result of an incident involving Lindamood and his wife on Feb. 15.

TCSO said as standard procedure,  the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an independent investigation.
