A man died in a structure fire at 241 Poplar Circle in LaGrange Saturday night.

The victim was identified as Chase Wingo, 44, who was removed from the structure immediately. Troup County AMR and LFD assisted in life-saving efforts, but Wingo later succumbed to his injuries at the Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, according to a press release from the county.

The LaGrange Fire Department and Troup County Fire Department were dispatched to the call, arriving on scene at approximately 10:35 p.m. They reported heavy smoke conditions upon arrival. There was fire showing on the corner of the one-story residence, so crews immediately began fire suppression duties as well as search and rescue measures.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
