The Callaway baseball team made short work of Columbia in their region opener on Tuesday, cruising to a 12-0 victory in a game that ended after 4.5 innings.

The Cavaliers got the scoring party started early with a run in the bottom of the first inning. After hitting a triple, Bryce Hubbard was able to steal home to give the Cavaliers a quick 1-0 lead.

It only got better for Callaway from there as the Cavaliers scored seven runs in the second inning to blow the game wide open. Callaway got its first two runs of the inning on a passed ball and an error. The Cavaliers kept on rolling and added another five runs in the inning to make it 8-0 and put the game all but out of reach for the road team.

The offense for Callaway did not slow down with Wesley Williams hitting a single to drive in two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Callaway added an additional two runs in the fourth inning to put the game well out of reach.

Garrett Huckleberry got the start on the mound and excelled, combining to pitch a no-hitter with Slade Hunt. Huckleberry went three innings, striking out five batters, while Hunt pitched the final two innings and registered two strikeouts.

Bryce Harrington showed tremendous patience at the plate, going 1-for-1 with two walks and three runs scored. Luke Taylor went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored. Hubbard was a cool 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Callaway improved to 4-1 overall and started region play 1-0 as the team looks for back-to-back region titles. The Cavaliers will be back in action on Wednesday away to Troup.
