We’ll admit that we were pleasantly surprised by the number of people who attended Thursday night’s forum between Willie Edmondson and Jim Arrington, candidates for LaGrange mayor.

By the end of the night, the room inside the chamber of commerce where the forum was held had very few seats remaining.

That’s a positive. More than 50 people were continuously watching the stream on The LaGrange Daily News website.

That’s also a positive. We’re guessing many more will watch it in the days and weeks ahead while considering who to vote for.

We’re glad to see so much participation in local politics.

But now it’s important that everyone actually follow through and vote.

Early voting starts Monday at the Troup County Government Center. Not only will you be voting for mayor but also for the continuation of SPLOST.

If you prefer to vote on Election Day, then you can do so on March 21, but don’t forget.

Early voting makes it so you can vote on your time, whenever it best fits into your schedule, and makes it so Election Day doesn’t have to be such a hassle if you have a busy day.

LaGrange continues to develop and has a strong present and future. But the person who wins the mayor seat will ultimately lead our city into the next stage of development.

We encourage you to do your homework and get to know the two candidates.

And then we expect you to follow through and vote. We certainly hope the voter turnout for this election will be impressive.
