Callaway battered Towers 10-0 on Tuesday to start region play 3-0 in 2023.

The Cavaliers jumped out to a quick lead when Landon Alsobrook scored on a passed ball in the first inning. Callaway did not slow down and continued to add on to its lead from there.

The Cavaliers scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to put some space between them and Towers. Blake Herrington got the scoring started with an RBI sacrifice fly followed by a sacrifice fly from Wesley Williams made it 3-0 Callaway. Dylan Nation scored on a passed ball for the final run in the inning.

The Cavaliers added onto their lead in the bottom of the fourth with six runs. Nation walked with the bases loaded to drive in the first run of the inning for Callaway. CJ Stephens showed great patience to garner a bases loaded walk and drive in the Cavaliers’ sixth run on the evening. An Alsobrook single drove in a run and an error in the outfield allowed an additional two runs to score for Callaway. Alsobrook scored later in the inning on a passed ball for the Cavaliers’ 10th and final run in the game.

Starting pitcher Bryce Hubbard was simply outstanding for Callaway, limiting Towers to just two hits on nine strikeouts in his four innings of work. Garrett Huckleberry pitched the final inning of the game, allowing two hits on two strikeouts.

Callaway only had two hits in the game — one from Alsobrook and one from Brantin Swanson — but showed great patience from the plate, registering seven walks and two hit by pitches.

The Cavaliers showed a tremendous ability to swipe bases in the game with Luke Taylor stealing three allowing with Harrington, Alsobrook and Nation getting one apiece.

Callaway is now 7-2 and have won three in a row. The Cavaliers will host Towers on Thursday for a region rematch.
