Dr. Samuel Clifford Rainey, III went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, from his home, at the age of 92.

“Cliff”, as he was affectionately known by many, was born April 21, 1930 in Macon, Georgia, son of the late S. Clifford Rainey Jr. and Martha Spratling Rainey. 

He attended Emory University and graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. Cliff proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War as a 2nd Lt. Optometry Officer. 

Dr. Rainey established his practice in LaGrange in 1954 and retired after 40 years of serve. 

He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday School Teacher, Lay Leader and Chairman of the Official Board. 

Dr. Rainey was dedicated to giving back to LaGrange. 

He was an assistant Scout Master of Troup 21, Chairman of the West Georgia Council of Boy Scouts, and was elected to the Order of Arrow and received the Silver Beaver Award. 

He was a former chairman of United Way. Dr. Rainey was president of LaGrange Chamber of Commerce, served on the Industrial Development Authority of LaGrange, was president and Life member of the Salvation Army. 

He was chairman of CAFI Board, and was an active member of the LaGrange Lions Club for over 55 years. 

Dr. Rainey lived a long and blessed life and will be remembered for his love, kindness and sense of humor. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, LaFaye Moncus Rainey; sons, Sam Rainey and David Rainey; and daughter, Windy Martin Luipen.

Survivors include his son, Brian (Flor) Rainey; daughters, Missy Martin (Tim) Herndon and April (Gary) Franke; grandchildren, Haley Michelle (Craig) Smith, Dustin Herndon, Sam Franke, John Franke, and Patrick Franke; niece, Martha (Mike) Booros; great nieces, Kimberly, Kristen and Martha Ashley; several other relatives and friends.

The Celebration of Life Service will be 1 P.M. Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at First United Methodist Church of LaGrange with Rev. Liz Millar officiating. 

A Reception will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army or First United Methodist Church of LaGrange’s General Memorial Fund in memory of Dr. Rainey.
