Callaway used some early offense to beat Valley (AL) 4-1 and stop a two game skid on Monday.

The Cavaliers got back on track by taming the Rams and getting back in the win column. It did not take long for Callaway to break the deadlock with Bryce Hubbard scoring on a steal of home in the top of the first to get the ball rolling.

Valley scored its only run of the game on an error in the bottom of the second to tie the game. It was no fault of Brantin Swanson who got the start on the mound and only allowed three hits in his four innings of work. Swanson was a menace from the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with a run scored.

The Cavaliers were able to retake the lead quickly, scoring their final three runs in the top of the third inning. Blake Sheppard singled to drive in the first two runs of the inning and give Callaway a lead it would not surrender.

The Cavaliers added another run in the inning on a single from Lashun Gates, who finished the game 2-for-3.

Bryce Hubbard continued his stellar 2023 campaign by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Luke Taylor also had a hit in the game.

CJ Stephens got some relief work in, pitching the final three innings and only allowing three hits on three strikeouts.

Callaway is now 10-4 overall and are second in region 5-AA with a 4-1 record. The Cavaliers will be back on the diamond on Tuesday away to region opponent McNair.
