After a rainy weekend, the sun was out at the Highland Country Club on Monday and so were the high school golfers as 15 teams converged on the course for the Granger shootout.

Thirteen teams from Georgia — Perry, Northgate, LaGrange, Newnan, Bremen, Central Carrollton, Starr’s Mill, Trinity Christian, St. Anne-Paceli, Heritage, Bainbridge, Upson-Lee, and Northside — and two Alabama teams — Smiths Station and Auburn — battled it out to see who would end up on top.

4A Perry beat 5A Northgate by just a single stroke to claim a first-place finish in the team competition. Perry finished the course in 317 strokes. LaGrange had a stellar showing, finishing fourth with a 333 overall score — six strokes behind third place Smiths Station and two strokes ahead of Newnan in fifth place. The Grangers finished higher than all of the fellow 4A teams outside of tournament winners Perry.

LaGrange freshman Saxon Chastain continues to impress in his first season with the high school team, finishing tied for first with Northgate’s Jackson Cavanaugh. Both players shot a two over 72 to lead the pack.

The final team standings for the Granger Shootout were as followed:
