It’s clear the LaGrange community has seen enough.

Two young men — one 15 and one 16 — have been killed over the last six weeks in our community. They should both be worried about high school classes, playing sports and thinking about their future.

Instead, two families have been left in mourning.

Events were held in several areas of LaGrange over the weekend, meant to mourn the passing of Nasir Truitt, who was killed earlier this month at Southbend Park, and to raise awareness of the need for change.

We need to harness this energy and keep it going.

Too often when something bad happens in the world, we all yell for change. Then, we all get busy, focus our energy elsewhere and only reconvene when that bad thing happens again.

That can’t happen this time.

While the violence in LaGrange is a far cry from that in larger cities, too many people — particularly young people — have been killed in our community.

Let’s all play a role in stopping the violence.
