It was not to be for the Callaway girls soccer team who lost to Landmark Christian 4-1 on Thursday and may have seen their region title hopes dashed in the process.

The Cavaliers gave as good as they got in the first half and after going behind early, found an equalizer in the final minutes of the first half through Kadence Leithleiter, who cut in on her left foot and unleashed a thunderous strike from outside the box. The Landmark goalkeeper got fingers to the ball that hit the post and trickled just over the line.

The Cavaliers rode that 1-1 tie into halftime but became unraveled in the second half as they ran out of legs as the War Eagles deployed a deep bench of reserves.

Callaway is now 10-2 overall and 3-1 in region play. The loss snapped a program record 10 straight wins. The Cavaliers will play at McDonough next Monday in a non-region matchup.
