LaGrange’s Jackson McElvy Earns Third CCS Baseball Rookie of the Week Honor

Freshman second baseman Jackson McElvy (Kennesaw, Ga.) continues to be one of the best newcomers in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) as he has earned his third baseball Rookie of the Week honor as announced by the league on Monday, March 20.
It is the 11th overall weekly recognition this season for the Panthers with McElvy previously claiming the honors on February 27 and March 13. Freshman catcher Curt Bonner (Cartersville, Ga.) also earned the honor on March 6.
He is LaGrange’s third multi-time winner this season joining senior outfielder Rhett Mixon (Loganville, Ga.), who was named Player of the Week on February 21 and March 13 along with third baseman Joe Ruth (Chiefland, Fla.) on February 27.
The other is junior pitcher Ethan Fry (Kennesaw, Ga.) who earned Pitcher of the Week on February 21 and March 13 with junior pitcher Dalton Brooks (Sharpsburg, Ga.) and freshman pitcher Eduardo Peralta (David, Chirqui, Panama) on February 27 and March 6, respectively.
Jackson McElvy – Rookie of the Week
McElvy came through with another impressive showing as he hit .385 (5-of-13) with two runs, three RBIs, a walk and two steals over four games.
After coming in as a defensive replacement in a 7-1 win at Oglethorpe (3/12) he went 1-for-4 with a walk, run and two steals in a 6-2 victory at Berea (3/18). He would go 1-for-4 with a run in the middle game of the series before breaking out in the finale.
In that one he went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs to cement a series sweep with an 11-6 win.
On the year he is hitting .375 (24-of-64) with 15 RBIs, 10 steals and eight walks with a .444 on-base percentage.

McElvy and No. 2/9 LaGrange host No. 1 Birmingham-Southern in a showdown of Top-10 teams on Wednesday, March 21. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
