Autumn Brown has enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Callaway girls soccer team and Wednesday she made another statement with an overtime goal to give the Cavaliers an important region win over Elite Scholars Academy 1-0.

The 80 minutes of regulation was an evenly contested game crying out for a bit of quality to break the deadlock.

As the game edged toward the final whistle, it appeared it might come down to penalty kicks. Brown ensured that didn’t happen. She buried her chance in the 98th minute when she got on the end of a pass from Isla Garcia.

Raine Hunt was only called upon to make one save, but she made it to preserve the win and earn the team’s eighth clean sheet of the season.

The importance of this win can not be overstated as it all but locks up a home playoff game for the Cavaliers. A loss  on Wednesday would have likely seen them go on the road in the opening round of the AA state playoffs.

Callaway is now 12-2 on the season and 4-1 in region play. The Cavaliers will host McNair in one of the their final regular season games on Thursday.
