Callaway baseball was searching for a bounce back win and got one on Thursday when the Cavaliers edged out Landmark Christian 4-3 for an important region victory.

After losing a home game to Landmark Christian earlier this week, The Cavaliers showed their resiliency traveling to Atlanta and coming back with a win that could shake up the region standings.

Blake Sheppard proved the man for the moment when he hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to give the Cavaliers a 4-3 lead. It proved to be the all important run that sealed the game for Callaway.

The game was edgy throughout with the Cavaliers taking an early lead when CJ Stephens — the only Callaway player with more than one hit in the game — laced a triple to right field that saw Landon Alsobrook reach home.

The lead evaporated quickly with Landmark homering in its first at bat. It did not take the Cavaliers long to tie the game with Garrett Huckleberry and Bryce Hubbard scoring on a pair of errors in the top of the third.

Once again Landmark came storming back and tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth before Sheppard delivered the aforementioned winning play.

Lashun Gates, Huckleberry, Alsobrook and Sheppard all had a hit each in the game. Stephens led the way and was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored the winning run. He also got the ball on the mound to start the game, going four innings where he allowed five hits on six strikeouts.

Brantin Swanson got clean up duty and pitched the final three innings, allowing just two hits.

Callaway is now 12-6 overall and 7-3 in region play. The Cavaliers will be on the road to region leader Redan next Tuesday.
