After dropping two straight against region powerhouse Redan, Callaway got the stinging taste of defeat out of its mouth by defeating Handley 10-4 on Friday.

Callaway’s offense got to work early with Blake Sheppard driving in a run with a double and Landon Alsobook driving in two with a double of his own. This gave the Cavaliers a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and they never looked back from there.

Callaway added two more runs in the top of the third inning when Alsobrook scored on an error and Blake Harrington drove in a run on a single. The Tigers got a run back in the fourth but it did little to slow down the Cavaliers who continued to add to their lead.

Callaway scored two runs when a runner scored on an error and Lashun Gates hit an RBI single. Gates was a solid 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Tigers answered back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the seventh with Callaway scoring three runs in between to keep Handley at bay.

Alsobrook was superb offensively for the Cavaliers, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Blake Sheppard was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. CJ Stephens also had a multi-hit game for Callaway by going 2-for-5 with a run scored.

Bruce Hubbard, Luke Taylor and Harrington all had a hit apiece for the Cavaliers.

Garrett Huckleberry got the start on the mound and pitched 4 1/3 innings, striking out two batters and allowing five hits on no earned runs. CJ Stephens came in for cleanup and struck out four batters while only allowing two hits in 2 2/3 innings of work.

Callaway is now 14-8 overall and have already wrapped region play with a 7-5 record. The Cavaliers will play LaGrange on the road next Friday.
