Home and Thread Thriftique, a resale boutique, has officially made its return to Hillside.

Vanessa Looney, the owner of Home and Thread Thriftique, said she is ecstatic to be open for business.

“I think it’s been 14 months since we had to close. It’s been a long journey, but I love being reopened,” Looney said.

When DASH purchased the building in 2021, all the tenants at the time had to move out and that included her. The organization would renovate the whole building, with Looney’s store being the first to be finished.

Now back in its original location, Looney said she was able to pick out fixtures and design the store to her vision.

“It’s still a learning curve for me trying to figure out what people like, what they don’t like and just trying to keep a variety of things in here that would please everyone. But I am excited to be opened and back in the community,” Looney said.

Looney said what sets her business apart from other thrift stores or secondhand resale stores are the items the store carries.

“I hand-select everything. I’m committed to quality items that are constructed well, clean and free of defects,” Looney said.

The resale boutique, as Looney describes it, carries pre-loved items that are high-end and of good quality. It sells women’s clothing and accessories, small furniture, décor, vintage pieces, and diverse types of china.

“Even though I have thriftique in my name, I’m not a thrift store. I don’t take donations, I don’t stock everything, it’s more or less just home décor,” Looney said. “I would say 95% of what we have has been pre-loved. We do carry some new things and have a couple of vendors, but I would say we have a curated collection of things.”

For those looking for specific items, Looney said the store can help source particular items for them.

“This is a special service we offer. If a customer can’t find a specific item, they can tell me and I can help look for it,” Looney said.

Along with the excitement of being opened again, Looney said she’s excited to work with new customers and the community.

“The people who come in here get such joy out of finding something — whether it’s a vase, or a piece of clothing, and they love it as much as I do,” Looney said. “That part brings me such joy along with seeing their reactions and getting feedback that they love it here, and they want to come back.”

Looney encourages people to get out and try something new.

“These products have a lot of life left in them. A lot of the home decor looks brand new,” she said. “You never know; you might find some special things in here that may be perfect for a spot in your home.”

Home and Thread Thriftique is located at 714 Lincoln Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
